Duncan Dunbar

Duncan Dunbar (my great, great, great grandfather) was born in Cromdale, Inverness-shire on 10 April 1784 his parents were John Dunbar and Janet Nairn. Duncan was in the Army 74th Foot Regiment for 7 years.  He lost an arm from gun shot wounds in Pamplona in Northern Spain on 30 July 1813.  He was discharged from the Army on 10 September 1814.  He married Janet Grant on 4 June 1818 and they had seven children, Ellen (my great, great Grandmother), Duncan, Margaret, Janet, Donald, James and Elspet. Duncan died on 2 January 1857 and is buried in Dallas Churchyard. Ellen (my great, great Grandmother) married James Kelly, they had seven children, Helen or Ellen (my great Grandmother), James, Duncan, Margaret, Jessie, Donald and Thomas. Helen (my great Grandmother), married Robert Webster Royan.

Ellen (my great, great Grandmother) married James Kelly, they had seven children, Helen or Ellen (my great Grandmother), James, Duncan, Margaret, Jessie, Donald and Thomas. Helen (my great Grandmother), married Robert Webster Royan.

    Their son Duncan married Margaret Milne on 07.07.1843. Their son James b 1859 married Elizabeth Ross b.13.06.1863. Their son Duncan b.25.12.1893
    married Betsy Cameron ( My Grandfather and Grandmother)
    Their son James Duncan Alexander b03.07.1922 (my father died 04.02.2016) married Joyce Freed on 08.12.1945 I was born 25.10.1950

    So Duncan Dunbar b.1784 was my g. g. g. grandfather.

  2. Ah, I see you have John MacKay, my ancestor, in your records! He was born in 1823 in Achilty, Contin, Ross-Cromarty. He got into an argument with his dad and crossed the water to Kellas, where he met Janet. He died in 1907.
    A interesting thing about Janet Dunbar, which my aunt told me, and which I’m trying to find documentation on, is that she attended a six week maternity/women’s diseases course in Aberdeen in around 1856.
